Maria Nordone
Maria Nordone joins Workplace Relationships after spending 17 years working on Wall Street, the last 8 of which were with the Investment Bank, Goldman Sachs and Company.
Most of Maria’s Wall Street career was spent in sales and trading in foreign exchange where she advised large corporations and governments on how to protect themselves against currency fluctuations through the use of options and derivatives. Maria specialized in hedging applications for Emerging Markets and advised foreign multinationals and government agencies on appropriate hedging strategies to minimize risk of currency devaluation. Maria also worked as a marketing strategist for corporate applications on the use of credit derivatives and published several articles in Risk Magazine on that topic. Maria was also a regular speaker at conferences that taught end users how to value, structure and implement currency and credit derivatives.
During this time, Maria headed Recruitment for the Goldman Sachs Women’s Network in the Fixed Income Division and was responsible for recruiting and training many young women joining the firm.
Prior to her work at Goldman Sachs, Maria worked in foreign exchange sales at Security Pacific Bank and the Bank of Montreal and then went on to run the currency options marketing desk at Chase Manhattan Bank in the early 1990’s.
Maria left Wall Street in December 2001 to pursue humanitarian interests. From 2002 through the end of 2005, Maria worked as Executive Director of an international relief organization that worked with abandoned children with disabilities and HIV/AIDS in Central America, the Caribbean and Africa. During that time, she met and adopted a seven year old girl from Nicaragua. Maria is fluent in Spanish and remains very actively involved and committed to working with marginalized women and children throughout Central America.
Maria received her business degree from The Wharton School of Finance, a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from the University of Pennsylvania and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA). Maria, her husband David and their daughter Yelyi live in New York City.
